The founders of RKSV have over 25 years of combined experience of trading in developed markets. They used to run an algorithmic proprietary trading fund in the United States for almost 3 years prior to moving to India. Set up in 2008, RKSV quickly became India's leading high tech, algorithmic proprietary trading firm operating actively across all exchanges. In January of 2012, RKSV ventured into retail trading with the goal of disrupting the brokerage industry by drastically bringing down costs associated with online stock trading.

We had to create their pro trading application platform keeping in mind the Upstox brand ecosystem. The pro trading app had to be made effortless so that users can search, analyze, trade, and monitor stocks, currencies, Futures and Options (F&O), and commodities with minimal clicks. Since smartphones have taken over the desktops and laptops, the approach had to be mobile first. Also, they wanted to ensure that the experience was as close to perfection as it can be.

The challenge of this project was massive. We had to bring a new web-based application to users who have been trading in the market for decades and are accustomed to desktop-based trading software.
In terms of design, we employed a dark theme to preserve its professional trading genre. Also, the dark theme was the best solution to help users figure out the massive amount of data and numbers that would appear on the screen. The dark colors ensured that there would be no distraction while users work on the application. We also kept the brand-essence alive by using the brand colors and elements throughout the app, from login to each widget.

While designing, we also had to keep in mind that all these widgets need to be movable and resizable according to the users’ needs. So we had to make sure that we define the minimum size (in pixels) required so show all the relevant data in each widget. The overall style of the application has been kept minimal, keeping in mind that all the functionalities should be a press of a button away. We built every widget of this application from the ground up, making sure that users are going to enjoy the best and easy experience possible.The result: a spellbinding, unparalleled user experience across all operating systems. Additionally, being web-based means users will receive the latest updates as soon as they log in. In other words, say goodbye to messy downloads and system upgrades.

For the android app, the challenge was to make such a huge application work on small mobile screens on the go. Search, analyze, trade, and monitor stocks, currencies, F&O, and commodities with minimal taps was what we kept in mind when we designed it.

In terms of design, we adhered to the style of native android which users are familiar with. We tried to keep the widget function similar to that of the web version, but with a cleaner interface. We had to rethink and design each and every widget on the mobile to make sure all the functionalities can be implemented on smaller screens. We experimented with new ways of interaction which would allow users to obtain or remove information with the touch of a button.

By the time we were finished, we had taken out all the unnecessary clutter and made trading on the mobile phone more powerful and elegant than ever.
